Ingredients
- 3-4 pound beef roast (such as top round or rump roast)
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup giardiniera (Italian-style pickled vegetables)
- 4 hoagie rolls
- Provolone cheese, sliced (optional)
Instructions
1. _Preheat the oven_: Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
2. _Season the beef_: Rub the beef roast with olive oil, garlic, oregano, thyme, bay leaf, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
3. _Sear the beef_: Heat a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the beef roast until browned on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
4. _Roast the beef_: Transfer the Dutch oven to the preheated oven and roast the beef for 2-3 hours, or until it reaches your desired level of tenderness.
5. _Shred the beef_: Remove the beef from the oven and let it cool slightly. Shred the beef into thin strips using two forks.
6. _Assemble the sandwiches_: Slice the hoagie rolls and dip them in the juices from the Dutch oven. Assemble the sandwiches by placing the shredded beef on the rolls, followed by sliced provolone cheese (if using) and giardiniera.
7. _Serve and enjoy_: Serve the Italian Beef sandwiches hot, with additional giardiniera and cheese on the side (if desired).
